At the Gallo-Roman Museum in Ath, discover history with your family
How about spending an afternoon travelling back 2,000 years with your children? Located in the heart of the city, the Gallo-Roman Museum is not like other museums. Here, there’s no question of just reading signs or standing behind glass: you explore, you touch, you play. And above all, you experience history… together.

Another way to learn
The Gallo-Roman era may seem distant. Yet in Ath, it suddenly becomes real thanks to a series of activities designed for families. The museum makes knowledge accessible by sharing it in the form of games, hands-on activities and moments of sharing.
One of the visitors’ favourites is the ‘Roman games’ area, which brings the pastimes of Antiquity back to life. Amid laughter and competitive spirit, families can learn about the strategy games played by Romans young and old…
Archaeology at your fingertips
A little further on, two ‘archaeology lab’ displays invite curious visitors to handle objects inspired by the fashion and writing of the period. Here, you don’t need to be an expert: you can observe, touch and test. You learn without even realising it, and that’s what makes it so appealing.

Follow the animal trail
Another little treasure to discover with the family is the ‘Animals’ visitor’s booklet. It allows children to follow a themed trail through the museum, searching for the animals that were part of everyday life for the Gallo-Romans. Wolves, dogs, pigs and even birds… The display cases become scenes from everyday life, and each stop is a new story to tell.
An adventure in a bag
And for those who like to move around, explore and guess, the museum offers a rather special companion: the ‘Marmailles & Co’ bag. Inside? Objects to handle, mini-challenges to take on and little missions to accomplish in the rooms. A unique way to turn a simple visit into a great family adventure.
